20 Sweet Celebrities Who Married Awful People

Not all celebs are lucky in love. In fact, some of the sweetest stars have found their way into bad relationships with less-than-stellar people. Hey — it’s happened to the best of us. After all, love is blind, so it can be pretty dang hard to tell when trouble’s just walked into a person’s life. Still, love must also be deaf, dumb, and delusional because that’s the only way these stars didn’t run away screaming when they discovered the truth about their significant others.

At least, that’s the only way we can really explain how these otherwise delightful stars wound up tying the knot with alleged cheaters, gold diggers, control freaks, and not-so-better halves. And sure, there are two sides to every story, but the court of public opinion seems to have made up its mind about who’s to blame for problems in paradise.

Keep reading to find out which celebs entered some seriously dark and twisted romances.

Jennifer Lopez’s first husband, Ojani Noa, probably seemed like a nice guy at the time, but once she became famous after they divorced, he reportedly tried selling her out. He dished about their relationship on Million Dollar Matchmaker in September 2016, complaining that she “chose her career” over their marriage. (It seems to have worked out pretty well for her, no?)

That was only the most recent of Noa’s offenses. In 2006, Lopez sued him to prevent him from publishing a tell-all book about their relationship, alleging that it violated a confidentiality agreement. A year later, Noa has issued a permanent injunction forbidding him from “criticizing, denigrating, casting in a negative light or otherwise disparaging” his iconic ex. He was also forced to pay La Lopez about $545,000 and give her all hard copies and materials related to the book he’d been trying to sell, according to The New York Times. In 2015, Noa reportedly tried to release an intimate video featuring Lopez that was filmed during their brief marriage.

After the divorce was finalized, more and more evidence emerged linking James to Nazism. “This is not the man I married,” Bullock later told People magazine.

5. Robert Kardashian to Kris Jenner

Controversy among the Kardashian clan? Say it ain’t so! But, in 2016, Kris Jenner’s own daughter, Khloé, said on her reality show that her mother’s affairs had “destroyed” her late dad, Robert. Fielder-Civil denied this claim, but nevertheless, both before and after Winehouse’s demise, he was involved in drug-related crime.

He also depleted the joint account by spending thousands of dollars downloading pornography. To add injury to insult, he was also accused by his step-daughter of physical assault.

In 2002, she also reported that she had caught hepatitis C from Lee – a truly toxic relationship.

10. Tina Turner to Ike Turner

Whitney Houston had a difficult life, and her torrid marriage to fellow singer Bobby Brown formed a large part of it. Brown, who had addiction issues, was arrested in 2003 for an attack on Houston. This was followed by a drink and drug-fueled problems with the law for Brown. Houston divorced him in 2006, by which time she had serious problems of her own. Rumors still abound that Brown was the one who introduced her to hard drugs. Sadly, Houston drowned in her bath due to drug intoxication in 2012.

Many people remember the split-making Sonny-Cher divorce in 1975 being messy, but few knew the real dirt. “One woman, or even five, was not enough for him,” Cher said of Bono in a 2010 interview in Parade magazine. Bono’s constant cheating, Cher claimed, had almost driven her to suicide.

14. Ali Landry to Mario Lopez

The marriage between actress and model Ali Landry and fellow performer Mario Lopez lasted for just two weeks of 2004. But, in hindsight, perhaps the union should have lasted even less than 14 days. Even worse was to follow, in his 2014 autobiography, Just Between Us, he told the world that he had never even loved Landry.

Nowadays, apparently, Cruise barely sees his child due to Scientology’s policy of “disconnecting” with non-believers.

Yoko Ono may have loved the late John Lennon, but the famous Beatle was far from the peace-loving hippy most people imagine him to have been. And, reportedly, Lennon also had homophobic and racist tendencies. Yet Ono has never denounced him and continues to honor his memory.
